The number one online community for contemporary hand embroidery artists
Is anyone else frustrated that pictures of projects that are not embroidery are being posted on this website?
As there are plenty of other websites for crafts I think that this site should be kept as a hand embroidery only.
Sorry about being a grump, but as my interests are embroidery related I'd like to keep this resourced focused on this.

Thanks for your response and thanks for setting up this wonderful website which I visit almost daily for inspiration. Have you considered asking for volunteers to assist you with things such as monitoring various parts of the website? I'd stick my hand up to help with this.

Permalink Reply by Pat Patrevito on January 17, 2012 at 19:29 Surely you do not mean this in reference to the lovely pieces that are not only hand embroidered but also incorporate other crafts as well (sewing, tatting, crochet trim etc..) I personally enjoy seeing these beautiful objects that incorporate more than one discipline and consider them a personal challenge to better myself within my abilities. I appreciate the many dimensions that others creativity takes me thru. I personally have no desire to see this site put such a stranglehold on the artistic endeavors of so many truly talented needlewomen. I am truly sorry for you that you feel the need to so severely limit your view. There is an incredible amount of beauty to be seen and created and I for one will not be the one who decides what is "hand embroidery" and what is not. The site is beautiful just as it is,and I appreciate witnessing it evolve on its own. Everyone who comes here has embroidery related interests or we wouldn't spend the time, hence the reason for so many various groups within the site. Perhaps there would be enough interest to start a new group within the site that would more closely suit your wishes. A great many of us are happy with the site as it is.

Permalink Reply by Su Douglas on April 29, 2012 at 21:17 I am new here and am concerned now that this might not be a place for me. I am a mixed media artist with a bias toward textile and stitch. I use handmade felt, painted backgrounds and other media such as print and tyvek. Does this mean that my work could not be seen here? All of my work has various amounts of stitch - be it hand or machine. I am not a purist in that I do not embroider for embroidery's sake.
Permalink Reply by Eveline de Lange on October 24, 2012 at 17:14 Hmm, my work also uses oil paint and ink, though hand embroidery is always the main focus, I try to blend the techniques so I can't say they are purely hand embroidery. However, as I understand it, you don't object to works that combine multiple diciplines, but just to pictures that have nothing to do with embroidery at all, such as photo's of one's kids or pets? In that case I agree completely, I come here to watch beautiful embroidery, not pictures of the family, no matter how cute they may be!
I agree with this entirely Sarah. No matter how beautiful a photo of a child or pet, or a pen and ink drawing or painting or anything, there are other websites for these. I personally do not object to oil paints or ink or anything being used in a picture provided there is some hand stitching. After all HEN stands for Hand Embroidery Network so hand embroidery should be the main subject. We all have our own Inbox so can easily send photos of other things to those members we make our friends in this way.
Permalink Reply by Nisa Kiley on January 20, 2013 at 14:36 Does hand embroidery also include free machine embroidery as this is controlled by hands as opposed to being computerised? Having just found this great site I would hate to be now excluded as the main body of my work is free hand machine embroidery.
