Patterns Yes or no

I was just wondering how many like to stitch their own designs or who likes working by a pattern? I do both.

I love to needlepaint so I look online for an animal or flower ect. print it ,trace on fabric then go from there. I also do counted cross stitch so thats a pattern.

I often start out to work a piece which I have either drawn/copied/traced from something else but then something eerie happens and I am compelled to freestyle!  Its like my hand has a will of its own. Rarely have I completed a piece that stayed true to the design.  My husband says I never like to take directions :)
